BODYMINDSYNERGY in downtown Belmont
33 Main St. Suite B

Presents
The Third Friday Art Show
August 21
5:30 - 8:00 pm

This show features Lori Lytle and C.M. Kakassy. These ladies artistic expressions are a must see. Light refreshments served. All are welcome to come in and show your support!

Lori Lytle often uses a source from her surroundings that she transforms the visual source into her own abstract representation. She describes her paintings as turning what you see into feeling verses an object. "An expression of my feelings expressed through media". She focuses on color and surface. "The process is as important as the finished product", Lytle says. She also uses objects from nature or found images to incorporate into her work, and different mediums and techniques to create a layered look or a technical application.

C.M. Kakassy attended classes a the North Shore Art League in Winnetka, Illinois where she studied under Rudolf Penn, Abbot Pattison and Gordon Simon. C.M. Kakassy original interest was in sculpture, however she also found 3-dimensional concepts readily applicable to printmaking and works on paper. Though she is mostly known for her creations in printmaking; the most effective medium she is celebrated for is her combination of technique and colors - which she notes, "guides the evolution of an idea and often inspires a totally new direction".

March 10 2009 Art Guild Meeting

March truly has come in like a lion, with our first "big snow", and lots of cold weather. But of course it's just like the weather to keep changing on us... now that we have all experienced the wonderfully sunny 70 and 80 degree days, I think most of us have said to ourselves, "I'm ready for spring."

Well it's almost here! So why not take the opportunity to join Scott Boyle on one of his paint outs. Visit his website for details... http://www.scottboyleart.com/paint_outs.htm You'll get to enjoy spring and possibly expand your artistic talents.

This month's Art Guild Meeting was Tuesday March 10, and since our guest speaker was unable to make the meeting we tried something new... we watched an instructional painting video. We also decided to explore the feasibility of having a lending library of instructional videos. So if you have some videos that you would like to share please bring them to the next meeting in April.

RUN FOR THE MONEY update: If you are a runner or know someone who is please join us on April 18th and "RUN FOR THE MONEY". Make sure when you fill out your application that you list the Gaston County Art Guild as the organization you are running for. And... please remember, all donations made through the Community Foundation to the GCAG are matched by the CF... so we can really benefit from the program if we get the word out.

Our poll update... although we only had 5 people take the poll, all 5 agreed we should keep the crawls in Gastonia. Other suggestions including expanding the number of crawls, and helping other cities with their crawls.

Coming Soon to Downtown Gastonia: This springs Art Crawl is Friday 24 April 2009... mark your calendar. And since it is so close to Earth Day the Art Guild, Gastonia Downtown Development Corporation, and the local merchants have decided to expand the crawl into the "First Annual Gastonia Green Art Crawl." Information and details will be posted on our website soon.

Thanks to everyone who has given me their e-mail addresses. We now have over 45 addresses! Just a 100 to go:> Please send me your contact information and e-mail address if you haven't already... gastoncountyart@gmail.com

Don't miss the April newsletter coming to your e-mail box (and post box) soon. And on a personal note. I will probably be spending time with my new little one by the time we meet again in April. I look forward to seeing you all again in May. Until then... get creative!!!

February 10 2009 Meeting

The Gaston County Art Guild met at Unity place on Tuesday February 10th 2009 at 7pm to learn the basics of mono printing, and get organized for 2009. Although things will be tough financially for most of us this year, being part of the arts will no doubt bring solace to the soul.

Thanks to Lori Lytle for bringing all the supplies and setting up for the mono printing "class". It was informative, fun, and funky. Thanks also to Lori for serving as secretary this past year. If anyone has any ideas for interesting and fun presentations for future meetings please contact Dennis Shook.
